ALL-AMERICAN AND PROUD OF IT!

TRA Snow and Sun is all-American and very proud of it!  Our colors, red, white and blue (with a little solar yellow thrown in!) were chosen for a good reason.

We believe and support the United States of America and all She stands for including the ultimate sacrifice made by those defending the values of America.  We’re American through and through, but we’ve traveled the world to obtain the knowledge and experience needed to provide the best engineered systems available anywhere!

American Eagle - Flag

TRA Snow and Sun was originally named TRA Snow Brackets when it was founded by Terry Anderson, the owner of Anderson Associates Consulting, in 1996. Although he had years of experience solving roof problems, it wasn’t until Anderson traveled to snow areas of Europe that he finally discovered how to prevent damage caused by snow and ice sliding off roofs. Learning that the European solutions were very different from standard practices in the US, he brought that knowledge back to America and was able to design Snow Brackets™ (also sometimes referred to as snow guards), and Snow Fences for all types of roofs as well as to help establish the concept of cold roof systems in the US.

TRA Snow and Sun’s Snow Retention devices have demonstrated great success in ski resorts such as Beaver Creek, Colorado, Sun Peaks in Canada and Grand Targhee Ski Resort in Alta, Wyoming.

Our Snow Retention devices were tested to a fail point by Brigham Young University’s Engineering Department. Using the resulting data, engineers created special charts to determine the number of brackets needed per roofing square based upon the roof pitch and the area’s snow load. Each job benefits from this focus on the specific factors of each roof.

TRA Snow and Sun expanded its product line to include Sun products when it was obvious no one in the solar panel attachment industry could provide the same service, engineering or value that is available with our snow retention products. The result is our Solar Mounting Solutions for solar panels. Available for all types of roofs, our Sun products reflect the company’s focus on engineering entire systems and focusing on each unique roof circumstance.

Visit our Solar Education Park just north of the manufacturing plant. There you can see how solar panels are mounted on numerous roof types using our unique Solar Mounting Solutions. The Solar Education Park also features two, very large solar tracking systems which follow the sun to obtain as much solar radiation as possible.

Another product line that was needed in the US was flexible roof flashing which can be molded to the shape of a tile, eliminating the weight and cost of lead flashing. Anderson established partnerships with suppliers and for several years partnered with others to provide roof flashings to North American customers. Now flexible roof flashings are available from his 100% American owned company – TRA Snow and Sun.

TRA Snow and Sun’s products help provide you with safety from the dangers and expense of sliding snow and ice, effective and cost effective mounting systems for solar energy collectors, and flexible roof flashing which have gained international recognition. Over 17 years, our products have been selected by hundreds of satisfied builders and property owners.

On a daily basis company owner, Terry Anderson, and his employees make sure that all customers get the help they need on each of their projects, big or small. What sets TRA Snow and Sun apart from others is our focus on engineering entire systems.

The engineering – it makes all the difference!

Why You Should Vent a Roof

Raise your hand if you want to lower your electric bill.  Raise your hand if you want to save energy.  Raise your hand if you have problems with ice dams on your roof.

If you raised your hand, keep reading.  If you didn’t raise your hand, then you have money to burn, literally!  Don’t read any further.

Temperatures on roofcold roof venting diagrams can sometimes reach 150 degrees or more on a hot summer day as anyone who has ever gone up on a roof in July can attest.  This heat transfers down into the home, and your home air conditioning unit has to cool it in order to keep you comfortable inside.  This can result in higher electric bills.  How do you cool off your roof?

Many people confuse venting a roof with venting an attic.  Attic fans, soffit vents, gable vents and plenty of insulation help to alleviate this problem but are only partial fixes to the problems caused by heat coming up from the home to the roof or coming down into the home from the radiation of the sun.

There are other options that not only help keep your home at a comfortable temperature, but also extend the life of your roofing product and help save our valuable energy resources.

A Cool Roof System is a roofing system which employs the same process that fireplaces do.  Heat from your fire is drawn up from the fireplace and exhausted at the top of the chimney.

Cool Roof Systems create this same process by  providing good venting space between the insulation and the roof.  By creating an eave that draws in air and a ridge that exhausts the hot air with equal intake and exhaust areas,  hot air is similarly removed.  This process  can dramatically reduce the heat accumulating under the roofing product which transfers into the attic and living space.  Cooling this way will also extend the life of the roofing product.  In snowy areas, this system can reduce ice dams and the subsequent leaking that occurs.

New TileVent

TRA Snow and Sun’s Tile Vent is uniquely designed to provide venting properties at the ridge on a tile roof. See the TRI Cold Roof Manual, co-authored by TRA Snow and Sun’s owner, Terry Anderson, for more detailed information on how to use venting to prevent damage caused by too much heat under the roofing product, damage caused by sliding snow and ice, and ice dams.
